The Different Types of Scaffolding Used in Construction
Scaffolding structure works as a base to support the original construction as well as serve as a platform where the workers can perform their work. It is a temporary structure which varies according to the construction work type. It is usually made of steel or timber to provide stable support for the construction materials and the workmen.
1. Single Scaffolding
Also known as bricklayer’s scaffolding, it is usually seen in brick masonry. It consists of putlogs, standards and ledgers placed parallel at 1.2m distance from the wall.
2. Double Scaffolding
It is used mainly for stone masonry as the rigid structure of stones makes it challenging to make holes. Two scaffolding rows support the putlogs to make the structure strong.
3. Cantilever Scaffolding
A series of needles taken out by cutting holes in the walls support the scaffolding. It is of two types- single frame and double frame or independent scaffolding.
4. Suspended Scaffolding
A series of chains or wire ropes suspended from the roofs support the working platform. The scaffolding can be lowered or raised according to your specifications. It is helpful for repairs, paintings and others.
5. Trestle Scaffolding
A set of movable ladders or tripods support the working platform. Works which are done inside the room take the help of trestle scaffolding. It is useful for tasks with a maximum height of 5m, including repairs, paintings and others.
6. Steel Scaffolding
Steel tubes are used to construct a steel scaffolding by fixing steel fittings or couplers together. You can easily dismantle or build them. It provides more safety to the workers as it has greater durability, strength and fire resistance abilities.
7. Patented Scaffolding
These are ready-made structures with unique steel frames and couplings. The platform is set on an adjustable bracket for better work efficacy.
